      Diabetes Management in the Primary Care Setting Unit 1 - Introduction to Diabetes

      This course has been designed for those who have identified a need to update or increase their diabetes and diabetes management knowledge.

      Unit 1 will provide nurses with a basic understanding of the disease and its impact on the individual and the broader community.

      This unit will provide the minimum diabetes specific knowledge needed to support provision of quality care to the person with diabetes and their families and carers.

      Duration: approx. 16 hours / 16 CPD hours

This course has been designed to summarise the key recommendations made in the guidelines, explore the concept of risk factors versus absolute risk and build your confidence in using the online absolute cardiovascular disease risk calculator. Reflective activities throughout the course will assist in your learning.

          The course has been designed to help you better understand the lifestyle and medication management issues for people at risk of heart attack and stroke and provide them with appropriate support in the primary care setting.

          This interactive course is now available on iPad, desktop and smartphone as an accessible and enjoyable way to learn, and provides useful links to other sources of information.
